After you arrive you will be asked to fill out a short health history.
These questions are to help the Acupuncturist evaluate your presenting
patterns based upon your symptoms. This pattern differentiation
is in large measure what makes Chinese/Asian Medicine so effective.
In a private room you will review the history one-on-one with the treating
Acupuncturist. After further evaluation the Acupuncturist will explain
the treatment strategy. Then your acupucturist will wash their hands
and begin your treatment. What is Acupuncture? Acupuncture originated in China over 4,000 years ago and is being used as a primary health care system throughout the world. It is a method of balancing and building the body's life force energy known as "qi" or "chi". Acupuncturists work with pathways called meridians or channels through which this energy circulates. Traditional Chinese Medicine views disease as the result of an imbalance, deficiency, or blockage in the body's natural energy flow. Such imbalances manifest in physical, emotional and stress-related disorders. Acupuncture needles are gently inserted into specific points along the meridians to open a blockage, to strengthen a deficiency, and to mobilize the body's natural immune response. Modern science has measured the electrical charge at these points, corroborating the location of the meridians mapped by the ancient Chinese. What are Acupucture needles? Acupuncture needles are sterile, single-use and very thin, fine and flexible (about the diameter of a human hair). They are made from stainless steel. What do I need to do to prepare for an acupuncture treatment? Prior to coming for your appointment, be sure to eat a light meal or snack and drink enough water. Please also bring the names and doses of all medications and dietary or herbal supplements you are taking. |
What benefits may I experience?
Generally it is painless. Sometimes there is a dull ache or a mild tingling sensation. Acupuncture is generally a relaxing experience, and some people nap during their treatment. Should I use Acupuncture with other types of health care? Yes. Oriental Medicine can be used by itself or as a complement to other systems of health care. When used together with Western Medicine healing is enhanced. Please tell us if you are under the care of other health practitioners or about any medications you are currently taking so that we may coordinate our efforts. Please note: While Oriental Medicine can treat many conditions, there are situations in which Western Medicine is more appropriate. If this occurs, we will recommend contacting a Western Medical doctor. Does my insurance cover acupuncture? In Arizona some insurance companies do now cover acupuncture. Saguaro Clinic will provide documentation to submit to your company for reimbursement, but does not bill insurance directly. The Clinic will, however, directly bill State Farm Insurance for some auto injury claims.
